Care
“Caring for someone requires a connected relationship; caring about does not.”
(Maximizing Your Potential: Essential Growth Tools)
There is a big difference between caring about and caring for someone. We can care about anyone anywhere without having any relationship or communication with that person. But we can’t care for them. Caring for someone requires us to be connected to them, in communication with and proximity to them.
Caring for others and being cared for requires us to be in relationship with other people, so if we want to experience and express genuine care, then we must be in vital relationship with others. This means we can’t isolate or withdraw from people. Without true relational connection, the most we can do and expect is to just care and be cared about.
